Las Vegas Casino Comp Secrets

Get more than your fair share of free casino "comps".  All information is free and easy to use! You can WIN!

In Las Vegas, over $500,000 worth of comps are given away free, by the casinos, every day.  The Las Vegas Hack Attack  is going to make sure that you get at least your fair share, if not more!

All most all Las Vegas casinos have a very simple (and until now secret) formula they use to rate players for comps. And this secret formula is:

(ave bet) x (hands/hr) x (house edge) = (expectation) x (comp rate) = (comp value)

This is how the Las Vegas casinos would actually rate a Las Vegas blackjack player betting $10 a hand for one hour. But, the Las Vegas Hack Attack  has found a few flaws that can really be taken advantage of by the player.

Now that you know how Las Vegas casinos rate the players that are gambling in order to give them free comps, the next lesson involves indentifying and exploiting the flaws in this system.

Las Vegas Casino Comp Flaws

Remember:  No matter what the odds are, gambling always involves risk.  Results using our Las Vegas comp and blackjack advice will vary. Never wager more than you can afford to lose!

Flaw #1:House Edge-As we learned in our "Introduction to Blackjack", Basic Strategy players only expect to lose about  a  0.5% loss, not the 2.0% the Las Vegas casinos use. (In reality, the average B.J. player loses at closer to 5-6%, this is merely the figure they use to calculate comps.)  This means that the Basic Strategy BJ player would only lose on average $3 per hour, not the $12 the casinos use as their figure. For this expected loss, we should gain $4.80 in comp value.

Flaw #2:Average Bet -The casino floorman doesn't have the time nor , sometimes, the desire to monitor every single bet that every single bettor wagers. In the above example, if you could get the casino to think that you were betting $40 dollars per hand, when you really are betting $10 a hand most of the time, your expected loss would only be slightly higher than the $3 an hour in the example, yet the casinos will rate you for their expected loss $48 per hour for a comp value of about $19.00 per hour! With an expected loss of only about $3 an hour.

Some of the ways that you can have your average bets appear to be higher than they actually are:

  1. Be nice to the casino floorman. We can not stress this enough! He'll be the one rating you, and there is a lot of room for him to be either "tight" or "loose".
  2. Choose a seat where you can see the floorman at all times and choose a floorman who isn't paying close attention to the game that you will be playing. Play the table minimum unless the floorman is watching, then raise your bet a few units.  When he's through watching you, then drop your bet back down to the table minimum. This "masking" of bets is really an art form and will take a little practice before mastering.
  3. While the floorman cannot accept cash, you may be surprised at how often a $10 parlay card or an "out of house comp" will get a very marginally rated player comped for things like room rate reductions (if not totally free), etc.
  4. Tip the dealer. The floorman often asks the dealer about your betting habits, particularly if he hasn't been paying attention. The Hack Attack suggests "strategic tips".  Try to only tip when two or more of the pit crew are watching, such as at dealer changes(!) or when the floorman is watching.

Flaw #3:Hands Played per hour.-- All dealers and all games are not dealt at the same speeds, so you can lower your real losses without affecting your comp rating. Here are a few of the ways to play fewer hands than the casinos give you credit for playing.

  1. Go to the bathroom once an hour. This could save between five to ten hands per hour.
  2. Choose the least decks possible. Not only does this help your win/loss expectation, it also takes more time per hour to shuffle one deck games than it does six deck games.
  3. Play face down games instead of face up.  It takes more time for the dealer to count the card totals when he/she has to turn all the cards over first.
  4. Avoid the "speed demon" type dealers. Choose slow, methodical dealers who, also (hopefully), like to talk.
  5. Try to miss al least a hand or two every time you are either ordering or getting a drink from your waitress.
  6. Play at full tables. Crowded tables are great for those of us that want to get as much as possible from the comp system. They can really slow down your real hands per hour.

A word to the wise: Don't become annoying when you try to slow a game. Use judgment and balance. It doesn't pay to upset the person who is rating you for comps.

Using these tips, you will only lose at 25% of the rate casinos think you're losing.  You'll only be playing 60-70% of the hands they are giving you credit for playing, and you'll only be betting 25-50% of what the casinos think you're betting!

It's really simple, if you don't get the comps that are available, someone else will. Do not feel at all guilty about getting casino comps. They don't feel one bit guilty about taking all of your money. (If you give them a chance!)

All the advice we've given so far will be useless if you don't do the single most important thing: Ask!  You need to ask to get comps! You need to ask about the criteria for a particular comp. In Las Vegas it is especially true that "You get what you ask for"!

In our firt lesson, we learned how the Las Vegas casinos actually rate a gambler for comps. And, we just learned how to expoit the casino flaws in their comp system. On the next page, we teach you the most important lesson of all: Who to ask and what to ask for.

Who to Ask for Las Vegas Casino Comps

Remember:  No matter what the odds are, gambling always involves risk.  Results using our Las Vegas comp and blackjack advice will vary. Never wager more than you can afford to lose!

Here's a list of whom to ask and for what:

Dealer-Can't give comps. (But he/she may report to the floorman, so be nice.)

Floorman-Can comp buffets and coffee shop for two. More importantly, fills out rating slip.

Pit Boss-All the above + rooms and better restaurants.

Shift Boss-All the above + airfare, credit, "walking money", and beverage + more.

VIP Host-Same as Shift Boss.

How do you tell the difference between a pit boss and a floorman? It's easy. Just watch their eyes. The floorman will be watching only 4 or 5 tables while the pit boss will have his eyes on the entire pit. Remember, that while the pitboss may be the floorman's superior, it is still the floorman that fills out your comp rating slip.

Also, don't underestimate the real value of a coffee shop comp. Some of the very finest food in all of Las Vegas (including steaks and seafood) is in the coffee shops. Don't be afraid to order anything on the menu that you want when you get a coffee shop comp, including appetizers and desert. It's O.K. It really is!

Before deciding where to play to get the most comp value, you might consider the following statistics. These statistics give a great deal of insight as to which general areas of casinos are the most liberal with the comps that they give out to the players.

Las Vegas Casino Comp Graph

These stats show that downtown is, by far, the most liberal area about issuing comps. Downtown casinos have, on average, more than four times the percentage of food loss on comps than the Strip!  It should be fairly obvious that the best comp values will be found in Downtown Las Vegas casinos.

Warning: No matter what the odds are, gambling always involves risk.  Results using our comp and blackjack advice will vary.  Never wager more than you can afford to lose!

One final note: Las Vegas casinos love losers. Do not let them know that you are playing Basic Strategy if you're trying to beat them for comps. Secretly take your chips out of play, then buy in for more chips. Do this as much as possible without becoming a nuisance.
